At One with Nature

Although living in a great city like London is absolutely fabulous, sometimes you want to escape it all and embrace the great outdoors. There are, in fact, lots of lovely parks that are like little natural havens just dotted about the city. Plus, there are simple ways that you can bring a touch of the countryside into your everyday life. Here are a few of our favourite ways of getting back to nature, without having to stray too far from home.

Parks
If you haven’t already, then definitely take the time to visit one of the many parks in the area. Some of them are ancient and they all have a different vibe. As soon as you walk through the gates, it’s a completely tranquil haven. Walking around one of these with a yummy ice cream on a hot today is absolute bliss. And why not take your book along so you can while away your afternoon.

Growing vegetables
Growing your own organic vegetables feels very rural and there’s nothing more satisfying than being able to eat veg you’ve grown yourself. You could even look into getting a plot at a local allotment if you really want to go big. If not, start small and try growing salad leaves, which are pretty easy to grow in pots. Growing herbs is also very easy, and they will bring a lovely fresh taste to your dishes.

Interior design
Bringing a touch of nature into your home with some clever interior design tricks can make you feel more at home if you’re a fan of the countryside. A rustic piece of wooden furniture can look great, especially if it has a rugged shape and is made from a particularly marked wood, like walnut. Antlers on the wall is another classic country look that will evoke the feeling of being in a cosy village pub. Consider reworking your flooring for a more rustic, natural style, with stone flags, brick flooring or wooden floorboards, as these can instantly change the feel of the room to make it earthier. There are also a lot of nature inspired pictures and soft furnishings around at the moment. In fact, the world seems to have gone bee-themed mad, so jump on the bandwagon now.

Give your cosmetics an overhaul
There are some delightful cosmetics that have a real scent of nature. Lathering yourself in a moisturiser that’s full of natural essential oils can feel like a real treat when you live in the city. Think lavender, lemon and geranium – these have a really refreshing scent.
