This stunning park was refurbished in 2006 and is a Green Flag award winner. It has superb facilities, cycle paths, tennis courts and is a great place for picnics - a hot pick for Dulwich families.
Perfectly positioned in the heart of leafy Dulwich is this expansive and pretty park. A favourite for families, joggers and cyclists, it has something for everyone. Around 72 acres in size, it was opened in 1889/90, having been originally a collection of meadows and farmland. Aided by a grant from the heritage Lottery fund, the park was recently restored to its original Victorian layout.
There are two entrance points on College Road and Court Lane and a bridleway spans the perimeter where you may spot the odd horse alongside the runners. Those seeking a coffee and some excellent cake can pop into the hugely popular café while the kids occupy themselves in the large children’s playground. The Café is open daily from 8.30am to 5.30pm, Monday to Friday, and from 9am to 5.30pm Saturdays and Sundays.
A favourite feature of the park is the boating lake. Pedalos and rowing boats are available to hire for a small fee, letting you glide around the lake with the numerous families of ducks (usually well fed from all the generous visitors).
Horticulturalists will like the dry and winter gardens, both containing a wide range of foliage planted for specific conditions. These supply plenty of colour and spectacle all year round. There is also a vegetable garden - join the Dulwich Vegetable Group and plant your own edibles!
Sports fans will have plenty to occupy them. Football pitches, a bowling green, tennis courts, an outdoor gym and table tennis tables are all available for public use.
In summer the Luna open air Cinema sets up and shows about five films per season, an enjoyable way to spend a warm summer evening.
