Lucas Gardens , SE5
This small Victorian park opposite Southwark Town Hall is a pleasant retreat for council staff and Camberwell locals.

It's a little bigger than St Giles Churchyard and there's a small playground for kids, a rather pretty water feature and plenty of benches. If you're after a quiet spot to have lunch while leafing through a good book, this is your place.

Before the park opened to the public in 1955 it formed part of the grounds of a terrace of twelve Georgian houses which were later used as part of the Camberwell House Lunatic Asylum.

The front gates have been refurbished and are a particularly attractive feature. The park opens at 8.00am and closes one hour before dusk.
